Tumbler Ridge joins the Love Northern BC shop local program

October 23, 2017

Tumbler Ridge, B.C. – Monday, October 23, 2017

Another wonderful community has joined our Love Northern BC shop local family. Situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the small friendly town of Tumbler Ridge is home to just over 2,700 people, with a few neighbours from the Cretaceous Period. Dinosaur fossil discoveries around the area may have put the town on the map, but it’s the people and the local businesses that help keep it there.

The small town boasts many locally-owned businesses that strive to provide great shopping opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Saturday, October 14, was the official launch party of the Love Tumbler Ridge (www.lovetumblerridge.com) shop local program. Officials, members of the community, visitors, locals, and some very excited kids were all on hand to help launch the program. Prizes, in the form of Love Bucks, were handed out to kick start the shop local movement. Food was provided by local shops to help promote the theme for the steady stream of visitors throughout the day.

The Love Northern BC shop local program showcases more than 1,600 businesses across 34 communities throughout central and northern B.C. With Love Tumbler Ridge joining the family this past weekend, just over 27 independent, locally-owned businesses will be promoted in order to help strengthen the local economy and the community.

The Love Tumbler Ridge and Love Northern BC shop local programs aim to provide participating local businesses with a better digital presence and on the ground marketing support. The shops, owners, products and services are highlighted through professional photography and exceptional storytelling. The program’s goal is to highlight the unique and eclectic businesses that have helped build and continue to build the character of these wonderful communities. The platform is also in place to help guide visitors to these great locally owned-businesses.

Northern Development is an independent regional economic development corporation focused on stimulating economic growth and job creation throughout central and northern British Columbia. Shifting spending to funnel more dollars into local businesses has been proven to pave the way for growth, new jobs, a thriving economy, and can both retain and attract creative and hard-working entrepreneurs to a community.
