Northern Development Initiative Trust Launches the Northern Community Transportation Booster Program

November 3, 2023

Northern Development Initiative Trust is currently accepting applications for the Northern Community Transportation Booster Program (NCTB) to support passenger transportation planning capacity within Northern B.C.

The creation of the program was driven by findings from the Northern Inter-Community Transportation Study, which outlines the need for increased planning when it comes to passenger transportation in communities across the region.

The booster program supports a broad range of planning initiatives that will allow local and Indigenous governments to increase their capacity for launching a passenger transportation service, improve ridership of existing services, or advance any of the recommendations contained in the study.

The Province of B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure provided $500,000 in funding to support the booster program.

Applications will be accepted until January 31, 2024. The program is open to local and Indigenous governments in Northern Development’s service region.

Joel McKay, CEO, Northern Development Initiative Trust

“Transportation connectivity is vital for the growth and well-being of our communities. Since the loss of Greyhound services, our communities have felt the pressing need for sustainable transportation options. With the support of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, we are now poised to boost our transportation infrastructure, fostering greater connection and opportunity across the North.”
