PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Kurtis Caston has been appointed to the position of Chief Financial Officer of Northern Development Initiative Trust by CEO Ben Campbell with the support of the Board. This internal appointment promotes Caston from his previously held position of Director of Finance to the CFO role and responsibilities.
“Kurtis knows the Trust, its intricate financial processes and what is required to continue operating in a sustainable manner exceptionally well,” said Margo Wagner, Chair, Northern Development. “We actively invest in our staff to support their continuous learning; this is true with Kurtis: we provided mentorship and supported his post-secondary pursuits while he supported our service region. The entire Board looks forward to working with him in this new capacity as we remain a reliable partner for the north.”
Alongside his financial expertise, Caston is constantly evaluating how internal processes can be made more efficient and effective, often through supporting team members and technological tools.
“This step in Northern Development’s leadership evolution is a smooth transition to Kurtis assuming the CFO position,” said Julie Ziebart, Chair of Northern Development’s Finance Committee. “Kurtis has been capably carrying more responsibility during his five years at the Trust and his new position on the Executive Team only strengthens the Trust and its impact in the north.”
Caston joined Northern Development in 2021 as Senior Financial Analyst. Utilizing his financial and technical acumen, Caston filled an integral role in the Trust’s Connecting BC program. In recognition of his contributions to Northern Development’s suite of partner programs, he was promoted to Senior Financial Analyst/Manager, Partner Programs in January 2023. In June 2025, Caston joined the Trust’s Executive Team as Director of Finance. The Trust has been steadily supporting and investing in Caston as he pursues educational goals and professional accreditations.
“The Trust is a unique organization, that requires a wealth of unique knowledge that Kurtis has amassed during his career, including the past five years at Northern Development,” said Ben Campbell, CEO Northern Development. “During his time at the Trust he has used his financial, technical and strategic skills to positively impact all aspects of the Trust and region.”
Born, raised and educated in Prince George, Caston is a graduate of the University of Northern British Columbia’s accounting program and has spent the last eight years expanding his skills and his portfolio of financial responsibilities. Prior to joining Northern Development, Kurtis worked as a public accountant after nearly a decade in retail operations management. He shares his expertise through his role as Treasurer for the Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre in Prince George. Outside of work and volunteering, Caston spends time with his young family and hitting the slopes in the winter.
