Northern Development approves $250,000 for Smithers New Arena

Smithers, B.C. – Northern Development Initiative Trust’s board of directors in July approved a $250,000 grant to support the development of a new arena in the Town of Smithers. The recreation facility, which has been in planning stages for two decades, will cost approximately $4.7 million to build.

Northern Development partners with six communities on “Small Town Love” buy-local program

Central and northern B.C. – Six communities throughout central and northern British Columbia have partnered with Northern Development Initiative Trust to deliver buy-local campaigns to strengthen local businesses, local competitiveness and keep more dollars in the local economy. The six communities included in the pilot program are the District of Logan Lake, the District of Fort St. James, the District of 100 Mile House, the District of Vanderhoof, the Village of Valemount and the Village of Burns Lake. Each of the six communities has a population of less than 5,000 residents.

Northern Development board approves $240,000 in funding for business façade improvements

Central and northern B.C. – Communities throughout the region have leapt at the chance to take advantage of Northern Development Initiative Trust’s new Business Façade Improvement program. The program, which was launched earlier this year, provides up to $20,000 annually to municipalities and regional districts throughout the Trust’s service area in central and northern B.C.

Northern Development photo contest winner announced!

Cameron Orr of Kitimat, B.C. has won Northern Development’s photo contest, following dozens of submissions from photographers across northern B.C. The photo featured Cameron’s son James, eight months old at the time of the photo, enjoying his first swim at Kitimat’s Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre. The contest required photographers to submit a photo of someone making use of a project that Northern Development helped fund.
