Mt. Timothy Freestyle Zone, T-Bar And Magic Carpet Upgrades Boost Winter Tourism In The Cariboo

In 2009, Mount Timothy Ski Society received a $1,074,430 grant from Northern Development through the Community Adjustment Fund program towards this $1,174,430 project. This has been a funding partnership of Mount Timothy Ski Society, Northern Development, and Community Adjustment Fund

2012-Mount Timothy Ski Area is a family oriented resort located in the heart of British Columbia’s Cariboo range. The resort includes a beautiful handcrafted log day lodge, thirty five runs, a Triple Chairlift, T-Bar, Magic Carpet conveyor lift, a handle-tow, two snow groomers and three snowmaking guns.

With funding support from the Government of Canada’s Community Adjustment Fund, delivered in 2009 by Northern Development, the Mount Timothy Ski Society was able to upgrade the T-Bar, build a magic carpet lift, and develop a ‘Freestyle Zone’ for youth 19-30 years old.

The society also expanded the first-aid and rental shop under this project, which had been identified in a capacity analysis as being of inadequate size for the increased visitation Mt. Timothy continues to experience.

This project is part of a multi-year expansion that has been supported through an additional investment by Northern Development for a Mt. Timothy Ski Society project:

"The new amenities at Mount Timothy are what would be expected at a larger resort, such as Sun Peaks."

Noel Thompson, General Manager, Mt. Timothy Ski Area

"We are very lucky to have a facility like the Mount Timothy Ski Area right here in our own backyard. This facility is extremely important to our area as a recreation destination and as an economic generator that helps to further diversify the economy of central British Columbia."

Mitch Campsall, Mayor, District of 100 Mile House

"With Mt. Timothy Ski Area located in the heart of the Cariboo, it provides excellent potential for tourism dollars to be brought to our communities. Our guests are impressed with the beauty of the Cariboo, the friendly atmosphere and the quality of the product that we offer, and plan to return for another visit."

Noel Thompson, General Manager, Mt. Timothy Ski Area

"Through partnering and participation with our communities, the result of the ski hill improvement and development project at Mt. Timothy will continue to enhance tourism for this part of the province, creating employment and economic spin-offs for our local communities."

Positive Economic Impacts in Lac la Hache

The Mount Timothy Ski Society actively seeks out and serves the tourist market, which draws consumers to both the City of Williams Lake and the District of 100 Mile House. Improvements to the Mount Timothy Ski Area have enabled the hill to go from a community ski hill to a regional ski area that attracts all ages and abilities. This has resulted in an increased number of tourists visiting the attraction and, as a result, spending at other businesses in the area such as sports shops and restaurants has also increased.

This project has improved Mount Timothy's gross profits and provides long term revenue and employment prospects for the area.
